The Cellini line was named in honor of the Italian sculptor, Benvenuto Cellini, one of the great artists during the Renaissance era, this watch was born in the Rolex house in the 1960s.

One of the reasons for the creation of the Cellini was to evolve the Rolex brand and try to not be recognized only by sports watches, this being the model that would focus on elegance, fashion, or more colloquially, a watch to "dress".

For the Cellini collection, they reincorporated a rectangular case, which had some of its models until the 1940s, resurfacing 20 years later, in the 1960s, with the Rolex Prince Cellini model.
